The Pre- Primary section at New Activity School started as a nursery under the expert tutelage of the then founder Principal Mrs Dolat Doongaji. What started as a school of 5 is now a breeding ground of some of the finest future minds of the city and even India. In 1958 the Nursery was shifted to its current location at the Tejpal terraces.
Initially the school followed the Montessori Method of teaching, however with the advent of one of the finest academicians of our time Mrs Mani Rustomjee, New Activity School started following the Kindergarten method of teaching. And while the school did change methods, the ‘play-way’ technique is what distinguishes the quality of New Activity School from amongst its peers. Play-way is a unique method aimed at stimulating the children via the visual medium. Colourful charts, flash cards, audio visual effects and models all take centre stage as they enamour the child into a world where the subject and the topic don’t really feel like a chore. But rather an enchanting aura of colours and pictures which visually imbibe the lesson in the very soul of the child. Truly the essential spirit of learning.
The holistic progression of every child is taken very seriously and we believe that it must begin at the very grass root level of development. Apart from developing an academic foundation for the child, we also ensure that they take active part in extracurricular activities to broaden their ever expanding horizons. The children are taken on regular field trips in and around their natural environment to help them appreciate the world as it is. New Activity School also conducts a bi annual concert in which every single child must compulsorily participate. This goes a long way in making the child more socially confident and ensures that there is never a feeling of being left out. The School also has the distinction of celebrating every single major festival in the country including Holi, Janmashtami, Id, Diwali, Navroze and Christmas.
New Activity School’s pre-primary section today is almost 200 strong, comprising from toddlers as little as one year onwards to Pre-First children. Teachers are expertly qualified and teach through the English Medium. It is under 24 hour CCTV Surveillance, fully air conditioned to beat the ever scaling Mumbai temperatures and is absolutely 100% compliant of all safety and additional requirements.
New Activity School’s pre-primary section is divided across 4 distinct age groups all working towards preparing the child for the rigours of academic excellence:
Children as young as 1 year and onwards form our Toddlers section. They learn to speak English at an age when most children have just started talking. Along with this their motor and rotor skills are stimulated with the use of the revolutionary interactive board, which is a constant, through the class.
