The Primary section at New Activity School was the obvious next step in the rich and gregarious history of the institution. Legend is that Mrs Doongaji was repeatedly almost accosted by demanding parents wanting their children to continue with the same brand of expert tutelage as they steadily climbed up the academic ladder.
The Primary section takes forward the exemplary work done in the pre-primary and exceeds expectations in terms of extracurricular activities offered and executed. These activities are primed to sharpen the physical and mental faculties of children and provide them with the overall tools needed to prepare the child for a brighter future.
New Activity School also conducts a bi-annual concert in which every single child must compulsorily participate. This goes a long way in making the child more socially confident and ensures that there is never a feeling of being left out. The School also has the distinction of celebrating every single major festival in the country including Holi, Janmashtami, Id, Diwali, Navroze and Christmas.
Three primary trophies are also awarded at the end of the last year which include rank, overall performance and the book review.
New Activity School also has an annual sports meet every year where uniquely and to their distinction, it is made compulsory for every single student to take part. The sports meet is now in its 14th year and is a constant success both with children and parents alike. It is supervised under the expert gaze of one of the finest Sports and PE teachers in the city- Mr Abdul Sattar Pawaskar. For the meet, children are divided into 4 houses and compete for trophies in various disciplines.
New Activity School’s primary section today is almost 200 strong. Teachers are expertly qualified and teach through the English Medium. The section is accredited with the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education [ICSE] and follow the prescribed syllabus under the aegis of the National Council of Educational Research and Training [NCERT] which follows the National Curriculum Framework [NCF]. This syllabus allows for holistic and coherent planning and advanced flexibility which generates a better teaching – learning process. The method incorporates the latest trends in field of primary education, while allowing
teachers the leeway to adapt the curriculum as per their own unique requirements. It is under 24 hour CCTV Surveillance, fully air conditioned to beat the ever scaling Mumbai temperatures and is absolutely 100% compliant of all safety and additional requirements. The Primary section also has a well organised and highly active PTA set up which helps invaluably to make the school setting more enjoyable, as well as profitable.
New Activity School’s Primary section is divided across 4 distinct age groups all working towards preparing the child for the rigours of academic excellence:
Standard 1 is the genesis of structured learning in the life of the child. More and newer subjects including Hindi and a plethora of the above mentioned extracurricular activities mark an increase in the workload but stimulate the child towards a brighter future. Standard 1 also sees the introduction of Marathi in an oral form, and Environmental Studies.
