The NAS Beginning

It began with five children in 1953.

On 3 September 1953, educator Mrs. Dolat Hoshang Doongaji opened New Activity School with five children. Her idea was both simple and ahead of its time: young children learn through activity, imagination and the whole experience of school.

01

A fifteen-day beginning

School archive material records that Mrs. Doongaji was offered space at the Bhulabhai Desai Institute on the condition that classes begin within fifteen days. She prepared the learning plan, gathered the first children and opened NAS on 3 September 1953.

  • Founder: Mrs. Dolat Hoshang Doongaji.
  • Opening group: five children.

  • Founding city: Bombay, now Mumbai.

02

From a terrace to Tejpal

After the original premises became unavailable, educationist and philanthropist Mr. Laxmichand Tejpal helped make space for the school near Laxmi Narayan Mandir. NAS continues at the Tejpal address in Grant Road today.

  • The current address is 13 Tejpal Gokuldas Auditorium.
  • The school remains a single-campus South Mumbai institution.
  • Historic archive claims are kept separate from current operational facts.

03

A wider education lineage

Activity High School’s own history identifies New Activity School as the beginning of the journey and says the secondary section formed in 1967 before becoming the separate Activity High School. The institutions operate independently today.

  • This is a factual historical connection, not a claim of present affiliation.
  • NAS does not use the other institution’s logo or admission reputation.
  • The source is linked so families can read the independent account.

Independent Historical Source

The lineage is documented outside NAS.

Activity High School’s official history names Mrs. Dolat Hoshang Doongaji and describes New Activity School as the starting point of its journey.
